# Overview

Polygon Chain is widely used for payment applications because of its high throughput, low transaction costs, and broad ecosystem support from major payment providers.

## Transaction speed and cost

With the upgrade to Heimdall v2, deterministic finality on Polygon Chain is achieved in 2 to 5 seconds, thanks to 1 to 2 second block times in Heimdall. Milestones are voted on and finalized faster than the previous checkpoint-only model.
